We currently have 1 Probation Officer role vacancy to work within the North Kent Youth Justice Team

Areas: North Kent – covering Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and Sevenoaks

Hours: 37 PW – some flexibility may be required including some weekend or evening working.

The role will be in accordance with the generic job description for NPS (National Probation Service) Probation Officers but will include the following relevant to the specialist role:-

      Case management of high risk/likelihood of re-offending cases: involving assessment, planning and delivery of interventions including specialist work i.e. sexual offenses.

Court work

NPS reference point and liaison with the local Probation team.

Preparation of pre-sentence reports

Managing cases identified for transition to Probation

Responsibility for managing transition

Undertaking allocation to Adult Services for transition cases

Liaison and sentence planning regarding transition cases

      To be able to act as in house ‘expert’ on MAPPA and assessing risk of harm.

On site access to NPS IT to help with background checks.

Coordination with parental orders.

Acting as referrer to NPS interventions

      Identification of Care leavers and establishment of working links with the SCS.

Maintain timely, accurate and concise recording on the YOS data bases.

Keeping up to date with NPS developments, policy & procedures and new legislation and maintaining links with the NPS link manger and local teams.

Liaison with victim liaison units as appropriate and Restorative Justice in line with Youth Justice procedures.

We are looking for people who have experience of working within the criminal justice system and who hold a Social Work degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant and related field.

Applicants should have experience in working directly with young people and with their families and hold an understanding of Young People who offend in an adolescent risk framework with proven experience of undertaking complex assessments and in report writing.

The ability to work in partnership with professionals from other agencies is essential along with knowledge of relevant legislation.
