Reporting to our Technical Underwriter, the Market Research Analyst will provide detailed analysis using their expertise for market intelligence and trends within the Personal Lines market, bringing an additional analytical dimension to the Personal Lines Underwriting department that will: 

  • Support the Chief Underwriting Officer and Personal Lines Underwriting Manager in delivering analysis that supports the company’s Underwriting Strategy
  • Review and recommend data sources to overcome any analytical shortcomings
  • Maintain a strong understanding and compliance with legal, regulatory and industry requirements and changes
  • Source and control our access to databases and other market intelligence
  • Utilise our price comparison models to assist the delivery of strategic objectives 
  • Undertake detailed market analysis of our competitors, market trends and performance.

The job holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of the research and trend analysis of the Personal Lines account and be required to meet the business objectives of the department.


  • Monitor/report on the results and trends of other insurers including those offshore with the regularity of their report releases
  • ABI data – analysis and interpretation including update of our existing models
  • Solvency reporting of other insurers including those offshore with the regularity of their report releases
  • Peril database analysis and updates (flood, subsidence etc) and change recommendations
  • Data enrichment output control and analysis
  • Responsibility for Business Insight price comparison software analysis and outputs
  • Attend market seminars and disseminate content internally
  • Contribute to maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders 
  • Identify new sources of data that is available for purchase or on-line through Government statistical websites etc
  • Continually reviewing internal systems meet the need of the business and available output is relevant and up to date
  • Create new databases that meet the departments requirements


  • Be an Insurance professional, with proven experience of analytical expertise and knowledge.
  • Effective at contributing to change and influencing outcomes 
  • Be customer focused and demonstrate trusted, credible engagement at all levels 
  • Have strong, professional and refined negotiation skills.
  • Have strong delivery, communication and influencing skills 
  • Flexible and agile approach to change 
  • Ideally a graduate with minimum 2:1 in mathematics, economics or similar
  • Experience and knowledge of working in a similar role is essential
  • Excellent numeracy skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work accurately and methodically
  • Experience in online research in terms of obtaining statistical data
  • Ideally progressing with CII studies or prepared to commence
  • PC Literate – advance knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook is required and knowledge / use of Sequel would be advantageous
