Assistant Housing Officer

Seven Resourcing are looking for an Assistant Housing Officer to work in Cambridge. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £16.60 per hour (PAYE ) or £19.10 per hour (umbrella). The working hours are Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm.
The role:
Delivering a range of comprehensive tenancy and estate management housing services to Cambridge City Council tenants, leaseholders and residents within a neighbourhood or residents of the Temporary Housing Service and clients of the Housing Support Service.

Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of letting of void properties in order to achieve the annually set performance targets for reletting properties. Liaise with contractors to ensure that empty properties meet the Council’s void specification within timescales and quality standards. To ensure new tenants receive assistance at the tenancy sign-up stage eg Housing Benefit applications.
- Responsible for the delivery of the management of individual tenancies, on a day-to-day basis, within a defined neighbourhood and provide an efficient and an effective housing management service in compliance with the Council’s legal obligations and corporate policies.
- Responsible for the prompt processing of garage applications and letting of void garages, to ensure garage void timescales are kept to a minimum.
- Carrying out inspections of garages as required, including at the end of a garage tenancy and liaising with internal departments if needed, such as arranging for repairs to be completed or to arrange the clearance of items left in garages.
- Assist tenants/nominees wishing to move in and out of council properties by arranging key handover dates; accompanying tenants/prospective tenants to view empty properties and completing the sign-up process of new tenancies with tenants. To process tenancy changes such as joint to sole and sole to joint as well as terminations of tenancy.
- Interview tenants to discuss complex housing management problems to develop solutions by liaising with departments of the Council and external agencies e.g. Safer Communities (ASB), Police, Social Services, child protection conferences etc. This may, on occasions, according to service needs, require work outside of normal office hours.
- To support the Council’s anti-poverty aims by considering, when in contact with customers, their current or potential entitlement to welfare benefits administered by the Council such as Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction.
Applicant Requirements:
- Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role.
- Compliance: Proof of right to work in the UK and 2 x references.
- Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
- Hours: 37 hours p/w.
