Prison Nurse – (Registered General Nurse) RGN

Seven Criminal Justice are in search of a dedicated and compassionate Registered General Nurse (RGN) to function as a Prison Nurse in Liverpool. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of specialised nursing care to a diverse population of inmates within our secure prison facility, while also promoting and maintaining their physical and mental wellbeing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for incarcerated patients, using a patient-centered approach.
2. Managing a caseload of patients with complex health needs, chronic disease and mental health issues.
3. Responding promptly and effectively to emergencies within the prison setting.
4. Delivering health education and running health promotion sessions.
5. Providing quality care while also handling difficult ethical issues, such as maintaining patient confidentiality in a prison environment.
6. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, prison officers, and staff to deliver best care and maintain safety for all.
7. Managing medication administration and maintaining accurate records in line with best nursing and legal practices.
8. Reporting regularly on patients’ status and updating all relevant documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Must be a qualified Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a valid PIN and the right to work in the UK.
2. Experience in a prison environment would be advantageous but not essential, as full specialist training will be given.
3. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with a wide range of situations.
4. The ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations while maintaining the highest level of care.
5. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the ethical and legal requirements of prison nursing. Lead on best practice and follow all health and safety regulations under all circumstances.
Working hours would include shifts covering weekdays, evenings, nights, and weekends. Enhanced DBS checks and full prison vetting will be required for successful applicants.
