Tutor (Sessional)

Seven Resourcing are looking for a number of temporary Adult Learning Tutors to work with Southwark Council.

These positions are initially for a period of 3 months and hours will vary from 4 – 20 hours per week based on client needs.

The hourly rate is £29.19 (PAYE) or £37.82 (umbrella) per hour. 

The council are seeking tutors to join there successful and established team to deliver a range of levels from introductory courses to the level 3 Diploma. These include level 1 Award in Caring for Children, level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism and up to level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce Early Years Educator).

The role:

To provide high quality teaching, learning and assessment as expected by Ofsted.
To implement Safeguarding and Prevent requirements.
To provide relevant information, advice, guidance and support to learners.
To maintain current, accurate and complete records of learner data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake teaching duties, including initial assessment of learners, identifying individual learning needs agreeing and completing individual learning plans with learners. To ensure that the progress and achievement of learners is recognised and recorded. To provide progression, retention and achievement information to Curriculum Team Leader / Manager.
  • To appropriately plan for teaching, learning and assessment. This includes preparing course outlines and producing schemes of work and lesson plans; ensuring there are appropriate and up-to-date course files; identify materials and equipment resource needed to assist the provision of teaching and learning; and production of appropriate flexible learning materials. It also includes undertaking course reviews.
  • To ensure there is a complete, accurate and up-to-date class register(s).To be responsible for withdrawing and transferring learners in liaison with Curriculum Team Leader / Manager. To maintain high levels of retention, achievement and to support learners’ progression. To monitor learners’ attendance and punctuality and take appropriate action as required.
  • To undertake in consultation with the Curriculum Team Leader / Manager and other appropriate service staff any work required for the accreditation of courses and for the effective organisation of examinations and assessments. To undertake the assessment and recording of learner outcomes including completion of exam entry forms.
  • To comply with Equality and safeguarding requirements, including all Health & Safety regulations and, in particular, be familiar with the procedure to be adopted in case of fire and risk assessment in the learning environment.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A teaching qualification (NB Southwark Adult Learning expects its teaching staff to be qualified to teach adults. We require tutors to be qualified to City and Guilds stage 1 or PTTLS, or equivalent.
  • Experience: 1+ year of post-graduate experience as a Teacher/Tutor in the UK.
  • Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS and 2 x references. 
  • Hours: 4 – 20 hours p/w.
