Seven Social Care is looking for a Community Get Safe Link Worker to work within the “Get Safe Team” at Worcestershire Children’s First.

 

It is essential that the post holder has:

 

The ability to travel throughout the County, including to areas not well-served by public transport.

Purpose of the Job

To work with voluntary sector youth workers to equip them with the skills required to support vulnerable young people who have been identified as being criminally exploited or at risk of exploitation.

To upskill youth workers to enable them to provide comprehensive, pro-active and intensive support to empower the young person to move pathway away from criminal exploitation.

To have a persistent and resilient approach to engaging hard to reach young people, recognising repeated attempts at contact is required to facilitate engagement.

To assist in the control being exerted over the child/young person by their exploiters, distrust in adults and services and fear of getting into trouble criminally.

To enable youth workers to identify young people at risk of or entrenched in criminal exploitation and embed the process for youth workers making referrals to GET SAFE.

To enhance the partnership between youth workers and the multi-agency GET SAFE team, including the sharing of safeguarding concerns and intelligence obtained from a young person by youth workers in a timely way and the creation of a referral pathway for young people in need of support from GET SAFE to youth workers.

To enhance partnership working of youth workers with families and carers, social care, education and other relevant voluntary and statutory agencies to strengthen their capacity to support young people as well as brokering relationships to ensure that the intervention remains young person led.

To provide youth workers with techniques to engage with hard to reach young people through persistency and resilience.

To build relationships with youth work providers and become a consistent, trusted person youth workers can reach out to for advice and support on working with children at risk of or entrenched in exploitation.

To build a map of activity taking place tackling CCE in our communities, enabling connections and sharing of intelligence and best placed support, helping to co-ordinate the county wide response to CCE and identifying gaps in support provision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To educate youth workers on the role of Get Safe in tackling the exploitation of children and young people in Worcestershire.

To educate youth workers on the use of the GET SAFE risk assessment tool and the use of the GET SAFE portal.

To deliver training and support to upskill youth workers to a level where they can be signed off as a GET SAFE referral partner – thereby receiving referrals from GET SAFE for young people at risk of exploitation and in need of support.

To educate youth workers to understand the issues and risks facing young people being criminally exploited and how to be aware of risks and vulnerable situations when working with young people and their families, ensuring they take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of self and service users.

To work with youth workers in a variety of settings, both in groups and on a one to one basis.

To offer flexibility to support youth workers with meeting young people at locations and times of their choosing, including evenings and weekends, particularly during the early stage of intervention.

To upskill youth workers to enable them to remove the barriers to engagement such as; the control being exerted over the child/young person by their exploiters, distrust in adults and services and fear of getting into trouble criminally. To encourage youth workers to have a persistent and resilient approach to engaging hard to reach young people, recognising repeated attempts at contact is required to facilitate engagement.

To support youth workers in building a relationship with the young person and their family helping the worker to become a consistent, trusted, non- judgmental adult, who will support the young person to move away from criminal exploitation.

To work alongside any existing Young Person plan including youth justice, looked after children, child in need, to reduce the risk of harm.

To enable youth workers to become part of a network of support and opportunity, from professionals and the local community, around the young person, promoting independence and moving them away from risk.

Support youth workers in forming partnership with local providers who provide activities for young people which differ from that of the youth worker. Support youth workers in empowering and encouraging young people and their families to engage in positive activities.

Support youth workers to engage with the young person’s school and enable youth workers to provide support getting young people back into an educational setting and improve attendance.

Alternatively, educate youth workers on where to look for opportunities for the young person in training/volunteering or apprenticeships, if they are beyond school age and support them to engage.

Support youth workers to bridge the gap between health services and the young person through encouraging and supporting them to address any unmet physical and mental health needs.

Raise awareness of other support services with youth workers who can provide for young people who have been sexually/criminally exploited; such as drug and alcohol treatment programmes and encourage youth workers to support young people to access these services.

To help youth workers secure support for the young person in achieving life milestones such as applying for benefits, opening bank accounts, securing supported housing.

To work with the young person on future scoping – looking at where they would like to be in the future and the steps they would need to take to get there, building a plan.

To support youth workers in engaging with children, young people and families to support participation in the evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions being carried out.

To ensure that information and safeguarding concerns are shared by youth workers in a timely manner to support young people.

To encourage youth workers to work collaboratively with statutory partners in gathering and sharing information to disrupt the exploitation of young people and identify hotspot areas Author

To educate youth workers on how to embed the effective delivery of support to children and young people at risk of exploitation, including the monitoring and evaluation of work and the maintenance of clear, concise and timely case recording and accurate records to report back to the GET SAFE operational group at a level which they can be signed off to receive referrals for young people requiring support from GET SAFE.

To attend and be actively involved in team meetings and supervision

To have flexibility to undertake duties within the GET SAFE team as and when required.

To contribute to the GET SAFE Team by supporting effective delivery of services, monitoring and evaluation of work and the maintenance of clear, concise and timely case recording and accurate records in accordance with WCF guidelines.

 

Applicant Requirements:

    • Qualifications:

      It is essential that the post holder has:

 

 

A level 5 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline

A qualification in Maths and English at level 2 or equivalent.

A commitment to continuous professional development and to attend training as required.

  • Experience:
  • Significant experience of working with and advising vulnerable young people with complex needs, who are at risk of or have been criminally exploited

Considerable experience of engaging hard to reach young people

Considerable experience of carrying out risk and needs assessments and the development of support plans.

  • Significant experience of integrated working in a multi- disciplinary context to agreed plans.
  • Significant experience of supporting vulnerable young people to access health services, support services and positive activities
  • Significant experience of case recording and report writing.
  • Considerable experience in communicating via the written word and presentations.
  • Considerable experience of motivating others.
  • It is desirable that the post holder has:
  • Experience of monitoring outputs and outcomes against targets
  • Compliance: Up to date Passport and DBS.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
