Waste Management Technician

Seven Resourcing is working with Leicestershire County Council to recruit for 2 Waste Management Technicians.

Looking for 2 candidates to fill slightly different roles. One will initially be mainly focused at Whetstone and will be predominantly site based with some flexibility to work at home / other sites / council offices.

THIS IS INITIALLY A TEMPORARY CONTRACT OF 3 MONTHS NOT A PERMANENT JOB!

Rate is up to £16.85 per hour Umbrella.

Working hours to be agreed on appointment but will include Monday – Sunday with some weekend working – (min one weekend in 3) times flexible but mainly between 8am and 6pm Monday – Friday.

Job Purpose:

This focus may move to covering all of the sites once specific activities are implemented at Whetstone and the flexibility to cover all sites as and when is required. The second one will be more of a mix of site based and working from home / other council offices and will look to work across all sites from the start including Whetstone.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Both technicians will need to be able to travel around the county under their own steam to the sites which are not easily accessible through public transport so a driving licence and means of transport with business insurance is critical.

Good knowledge and utilisation of IT packages including Microsoft applications and ability to pick up and navigate other packages such as e learning hubs

Basic Knowledge of Health and Safety particularly in an operational setting

Good communicator at all levels particularly to front line staff in being able to train provide support on utilisation of IT where staff have had little or no previous interaction and may struggle with numeracy and literacy skills

Practical hands on approach 1 of the posts will be very much field based working mainly from Whetstone or other waste sites as well as some home working

Other post working on sites, site visits etc but also slightly more flexibility to work from home or county hall type location

Proactive self-motivated and ability to work independently on specific tasks and projects without constant supervision (supervision will be remote particularly for the none field based role

All PPE and appropriate training will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Familiarisation with all sites and staff including working on the sites

Practical site based activities undertaking inspections following up on works identifying

Understanding existing processes, risk assessment, SSOW and identifying and implementing new processes required for efficient working

Support in implementing Quality management system at Whetstone

Look at the various inspections operational staff are required to undertake and references in Actions plans and ensure that the information captured in the action plan is reflected in the inspection documents

Work with colleagues in Quality Management team to process map operational and administrational functions of the service including requirements for transport and haulage, hr processes

Work with supervisors and managers to support is service delivery pressures and processes

Look at existing spreadsheets utilised for communicating data about site operations and how they can be improved, ensure they are clear and capturing accurate information

Assist in waste operations implementing and Health and Safety Management system in line with OSHAS / ISO and supporting with internal audits

Deal with complaints and queries from members of the public regarding the recycling and household waste sites.

Support on any changes that are required to the operation of the recycling household waste sites such as reintroduction of the permit system, changes in how residents can access the sites, implementation of changing working practices in a post COVID / social distancing

Assist in creating training packages (Toolbox tools, memo, information sources on health and safety, service changes etc) and supporting operational supervisors / managers

Delivering training tool box talks to front line staff in small groups or 1:1

Support front line staff in accessing online learning packages to complete mandatory training e training

Gathering, interpretating and presenting data in various forms from multiple sources to inform decisions and insist in communication

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: N/A
  • Experience: Basic Knowledge of Health and Safety particularly in an operational setting. Good knowledge and utilisation of IT packages including Microsoft applications and ability to pick up and navigate other packages such as e learning hubs
  • Compliance: Up to date Passport and Drivers Licence.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
