The Intellectual Property Manager works with the Group Legal Counsel to implement the company’s goals, intellectual property plan and operational framework, achieving objectives and deliverables in line with the broader Group’s strategy.

The position is responsible for assisting to develop and maintain the company’s impact through its intellectual property portfolio. This includes implementing, maintaining and continually improving project and knowledge management systems and documentation, providing expert advice on intellectual property to both the Research and Development teams and senior management, including running training programs where necessary and identifying freedom to operate.

The position works closely with the Chief Science Officer and technical teams to identify the emerging innovation for intellectual property protection and technology translation, including the identification and protections of intellectual property in collaborative projects and commercialization.

Key Accountabilities:-

  • Help to develop and oversee the Company’s Intellectual Property strategy.
  • Primary responsibility for managing communications with external counsel in  respect of IP and actively assisting in the preparation, filing and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications, including preparing arguments in response to office actions.
  • Provide guidance to senior management on licensing and business transactions involving Intellectual Property, including ability to prepare patentability and freedom-to-operate briefing papers as necessary.
  • Develop and in-depth knowledge of existing projects and outputs across the company and assist in the assessment of market gap, freedom-to-operate and patentability.
  • Work with R&D to assess patentability of new inventions; assist in drafting and reviewing related invention disclosures.
  • Review and prepare freedom-to-operate briefing papers in relation to new product ideas and developments coming from the R&D group.
  • Carry our IP mapping to help guide the business and strategy of R&D teams.
  • Propose and execute strategies for protection of Company Intellectual Property.
  • Provide periodic training to Company employees regarding the identification and protection of Intellectual Property
  • Develop and maintain a database and an interface system to manage Intellectual Property, IP Disclosures and education relating to IP.
  • Advise senior management on any new laws, regulations or statutes affecting the
  • Company’s Intellectual Property.
  • Primary responsibility for maintenance of current IP portfolio

Key Skills and Qualifications:-

  • Degree or similar experience in a life-science discipline is strongly preferred.
  • Degree in law is strongly preferred.
  • Clear understanding of patent and trademark law.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans necessary to provide a strong IP position for the
  • Company’s products and clearly articulate those plans to senior management.
  • Ability to manage the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and conducting of patentability and freedom-to-operate searches.
  • Strong language and presentation skills in connection with patent prosecution and office actions.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and effectively manage priorities to meet tight deadlines.
  • Independent and self-motivated, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to drive a project to completion.
