Seven Social Care is looking for a Senior Practitioner to fill an exclusive opportunity specialising in the wellbeing of children and young people across Luton.

The role:

To undertake all statutory interventions for complex cases in a specific service area, that enable children & young people to live in family & community environments that maximize their life chances and to support other social work staff and manager in their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assess the needs of children & young people and families, carers, groups & communities using standard assessment tools and within prescribed timescales so that plans made are timely and evidence-based.
  • Plan, implement, review & evaluate (with input from with Commissioning & other partners) social work interventions in complex cases which by their nature challenge current resources and deliver the optimum outcomes for service users and their carers in fresh and imaginative ways, demonstrating an understanding of issues of diversity and difference and their impact on service users
  • Continuously identify and assess risk of harm to children & young people or their communities and ensure that plans are implemented to manage these risks.
  • Communicate with and build effective working relationships with other professionals and colleagues who are working with the child/young person and their family to ensure that any planned interventions maximise the outcomes for the child/young person.
  • Ensure that all work is recorded promptly and accurately to the required standards.
  • Ensure that children & young people and their families are enabled to express their needs and views and that these are identified in plans.
  • Effectively participate and represent the authority in legal proceedings and other decision making forums so that children and young people’s needs are met.
  • Produce written reports within timescales/deadlines as prescribed by the Authority.
  • Effectively manage and remain accountable for a portfolio of complex cases and other tasks in both routine and crisis situations so that statutory deadlines are met and plans are delivered within available resources.
  • Represent the Council to the public in such a way as to ensure quality of service and information in line with the Council’s customer charter.
  • Challenge own practice and that of others and seek support and assistance using appropriate procedures to ensure safe practice.
  • To lead teams of colleagues on large cases monitoring guiding and directing the work of colleagues.
  • To provide effective professional supervision to staff in line with service procedures as directed
  • Contribute to the development of self and the service through attendance and contribution to team, service and corporate events and training, and leadership of multi agency groups as required. Facilitate the dissemination of best practice and research through the team in support of the manager.
  • Understand and implement local health & safety procedures to ensure the safety of self & colleagues at all times.
  • Research, analyse, evaluate and use current knowledge of best social work practice
  • As directed undertake project work as directed
  • Deputise for manager as directed
  • Chair statutory and other meetings as directed

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Social work degree or equivalent. Post qualifying award or commitment to obtaining this.
  • Experience: Extensive and detailed understanding of how UK children’s social care legislation translates into practice, and understanding of related children’s disciplines such as Education, Health, justice gained through substantial post qualifying experience in a statutory children’s social care setting including experience related to the service area. Experience of completing complex multi disciplinary assessments. Experience of organizing and leading groups of social care staff on cases.
  • Compliance: Up to date HCPC registration and DBS.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37 hours p/w.
