Seven Social Care is looking for a qualified Senior Practitioner to fill an exclusive opportunity working as part of a Social Work Academy in Luton.

The role:

  • To support practice development of our ASYE’s through the Social Work Academy.
  • To continue to promote the academy and career pathways and Luton as an employer. To respond to service demand by holding a minimal complex caseload in order to support our NQSW’s and to cover maternity leave and long term sickness within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the NQSW’s to deal effectively with all enquiries from a variety of sources (including members of the public, service users, internal departments and professionals from other agencies) to provide specialist advice and guidance on safeguarding matters and the appropriate signposting of incoming work to relevant professionals as required, acting as a filter to ensure inappropriate contacts and queries do not progress to the social work teams. To support and mentor the practice development of our ASYE’s through the Social Work Academy.
  • Manage a minimal caseload of complex issues in order to support our NQSW’s -processing them efficiently and safely to the relevant service or more appropriate resource to meet needs
  • Use advanced professional knowledge, skills, experience and initiative to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding in accordance with the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board threshold document and an initial view of risk, obtain comprehensive information from referrers, pursuing lines of enquiry at the earliest point of contact and advising referrers appropriately as to the best course of action to enable children and young people to remain safe.
  • Effectively and comprehensively gather record and analyse sensitive and confidential data on the relevant database, collating key information relating to children’s safeguarding and protection, maintaining accurate and up to date records in accordance with the Data Protection Act, and to enable the production of statistical and management reports as required.
  • Mentor and support the Newly Qualified Social Worker’s (NQSW) s on progressing of referrals, and to confirm the outcome of referrals, including where no further action has been taken to partner agencies, other organisations and members of the public as appropriate and within practice standards timescales.
  • Undertake research, training and development activities as required for the department and the post holder’s development, and as and when agreed by the Service Manager, undertake the role of practice educator for students undergoing professional training who are on placement in the department.
  • Under the direction of the Academy Manager or Service Manager, represent the department in its working relationships with other agencies where issues of professional social work practice are under consideration. This will include chairing meetings and holding others to account of the required action plans.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications Relevant professional qualification, e.g.: Dip SW, CQSW, Registered with the Social work regulator
  • Experience: Substantial post qualifying experience including in – depth experience in the field of child and family social work. Demonstrable experience of coaching / mentoring including practice teaching. In-depth service specific knowledge of children’s safeguarding and management of risk
  • Compliance: Up to date HCPC registration and DBS.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 37.5 hours p/w.
